Jewish Colony 3 Day Tour
This is a short tour that explores the Jewish Buenos Aires for one day, and the remote jewish colony of Moise Ville for another full day.
Itinerary:
Day One
Begin your adventure of Argentinean Judaism in Buenos Aires. Your first day starts with a visit to Villa Crespo, a traditional Jewish area, where you'll see synagogues and yeshivas still in use today. Next, you'll explore AMIA and the immigrant museum. Here, you'll learn how Jews arrived in this South American port - knowledge that will inform your entire trip. A stop at the Israeli Embassy and visits to a Judaica shop and Jewish bookstore will help you understand Jewish Argentina today.
You'll return to the hotel in time to prepare for your 6PM departure to the province of Santa Fe, near where the famed colony Moise Ville is located. After transferring to your hotel, you'll enjoy a delicious dinner and rest up for tomorrow's big day of touring.
Day Two
Today is packed full of exploring Moise Ville's Jewish past intermingling with its present. The private tour includes visits to each of the colony's four synagogues, the Theatre and Kadima library and the cemetery. A lunch of Jewish foods, like kreplach and knishes and visits to the bakery for delicious Challah and a stop at the local Hebrew School demonstrate that, in spite of the dwindling population of Jews (only about 300 Jews remain in the colony), its Jewish history is well preserved. You'll wander the streets where children still occasionally shout out Yiddish words, and enjoy a visit to the Colonization Museum. At the end of the day, you'll have seen how the rich Jewish heritage of this colony is still alive today.
Day Three
Having explored the history of Jews in Argentina, and their agricultural past, you take an early morning flight back to Buenos Aires. The rest of the day is at leisure. You may want to explore Buenos Aires, or the Jewish sites further on this day.
